Communion

The Lord’s Supper, which we celebrate today, is a way for the Christian to remember the sacrifice of Christ. If you have not yet believed in Christ as Savior, we invite you to watch and learn.  We are glad you are here! If you have questions about Jesus, please see Pastor Scott after the worship service. The bread we use is allergen free and contains no wheat, dairy, nuts or soy. It may contain egg.

BIBLE READING FOR THIS WEEK

Read through CHAPTER 6 of Believe this week as you ponder the following questions:

  1. What in this chapter spoke to me the most? Was there something I saw in a new light?
  2. What in this chapter draws me to live more fully for Christ?
  3. Is there something that I would want to share from my heart with someone who may not know Jesus as their Savior?

PRAYERS

Each week we pray for members of our church family. Suggested prayers are for their spiritual growth, opportunities to see Christ in their everyday lives, and anything else that God puts on your mind for them. This week please pray for:

  • Marlene B
  • Diane & Mike B
  • Anita B: Jonathan, AnaMaria, Isaac Jon
  • Mike & Geralyn C: Josiah, Abigail, Bethany, Aleya, Emma, Nathanael, Alexander

Pray for Christians in Nigeria: Muslim Fulani herdsmen shot a 70-year-old Christian and wounded two others there last month. The herdsmen attacked at 11 p.m. on Dec. 4, according to the ECWA church’s pastor, the Rev. Williams Yakubu. John Karik of St. John’s Catholic Church was shot dead as he was sleeping. Karik’s son, 43-year-old Anthony John, also a member of St. John’s, was shot and wounded in the same house. A 16-year-old member of the ECWA church, Gideon Philip, was shot and wounded as he fled from his house, which is near the Karik home, the church leaders said.

Christians in Ginden Dutse village, in Jema’a County, reported the destruction of their crops by the Muslim Fulani’s cattle, but they have not retaliated in any way, they said. “We cannot fight back, because we as Christians are law-abiding citizens of this country,” Abel Bako, 48, told Morning Star News. “However, it is the responsibility of the Nigerian government to protect us from terror activities of herdsmen….The sad thing is that it is only Christian communities that have come under these herdsmen attacks,” church secretary Bako said. “It clearly shows that there is a deliberate effort to cleanse Christians from this part of the country.”  JAGINDI, Nigeria, January 29, 2019 (Morning Star News)

Nigeria ranked 12th on Open Doors’ 2019 World Watch List of countries where Christians suffer the most persecution.

MISSIONAL MARKER

The congregation of Hope in Christ Church has made the Spirit-filled decision to move forward and become a healthy missional church. This week’s Missional Marker is:  GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE AND ENGAGEMENT (ACTS 1:8)

  • We raise the sights of our members beyond our congregation and community by developing a Biblical worldview and often pray for and reference global matters.
  • We have identifiable pathways to support the cause of Christ globally.
  • Our people are equipped and growing in their ability to participate in the global dimensions of our ministry.

Have you been heard? As a Christian Reformed Church denomination, we are on a journey of God’s work together. As with any journey, it is essential that as we travel we listen to each other and map our progress. With this in mind, our congregation is participating in the 2019 CRC denominational survey. It is crucial that as many people from our congregation as possible participate. Please visit crcna.org/survey and answer the survey questions by February 28. If you prefer to have a paper copy, they are available in the office.
