The importance of people with positions

Jesus is really important (Heb 4:14, 2;17, 3;6, 4:2, 11-13)

          1. The Son of God (Lk 1:35, Jn 20:31, 1:49)
          2. Application:
            1. You can’t make too big a deal about Jesus
            2. He is the core of the gospel message (1Cor 2:2)
          3. So how can you meet with God the Father?

Jesus deals with sin

          1. Priests offer sacrifices for sin (Heb 5:1)
          2. The name of Jesus (Mt 1:21)
          3. Application: Don’t try and downplay your sin. Rather let Jesus cleanse you of it.

Jesus recognizes us (Heb 4:15

          1. Like us
          2. He sympathizes with our weaknesses.
            1. Weaknesses is translated by a variety of words in the NT (Mt 8:17, Lk 5:15, 8:2, Rom 6:19).
          3. He was tempted (Mt 4)
          4. Application
            1. Bring your sin to him, don’t pretend to be better than you are.
            2. He is gentle and will change you if you are gentle and willing
            3. Be gentle with one another.

Jesus connects us to God

          1. Without sin (Heb 4:15)
          2. Why it matters he was sinless (HC 16-17, Heb 5:2)
          3. He teaches us the ways of God (Jn 8:1-11, Mk 9:35)

Jesus smooths the way for us (Heb 4:16)

          1. Let us confidently go to God
          2. Let us HOLD FAST TO OUR CONFESSION
          3. Jesus is our Sympathetic Savior!
