Sermon outline

Remember we are not moving away but fully incorporating these elementary doctrines

What is repentance?

          1. It was the message John the Baptist and Jesus proclaimed (Mt 3:2, 4:17)
          2. Repentance is a turning from something.
            1. It implies one turns from sin or wickedness (Acts 8:22-23, Heb 6:1)
            2. We turn from Not worshipping God or giving him glory (Rev 16:9-11)
            3. We turn from sin (Lk 17:3)
            4. We turn from Dead works (Rev 9:20-21, 2Cor 12:21)
          3. Repentance is a forsaking of certain behaviors in our relationship with God and others
          4. Repentance involves a sense of grief and mourning (Mt 11:21)

Why are repentance so important?

          1. Without repentance, it is impossible to come to a knowledge of the truth (2Tim 2:25)
          2. Without repentance, death awaits (Lk 13:5, Rom 6:23, 9:1ff)
          3. With Repentance one finds the pathway to forgiveness (Act 2:38, 3:19, 1Jn 1:9
          4. So why don’t Christians repent and confess more freely?
          5. Repentance implies that something moves from being unfruitful to becoming fruitful (Mt 3:8, Gal 5:22-23,
          6. Repentance is a gift from God to the sinner (Acts 5:31, 2Pet 3:9, Rom 5:21)

What is faith?

          1. So, faith is the assurance God through Christ is reconciling sinners to himself and when we believe this, our life is lived seeking to hear the voice of God and to live by the enabling he makes possible.
          2. Faith is expounded in Heb 11:1
          3. Faith is exercised when one has a foundational trust that God is the Creator of everything (Heb 11:3)

Why is faith so important?

          1. Without faith it’s impossible to believe in God and please him (Heb 11:6)
