- The Sin Offering (aka purification offering accd. To Gordon Wenham)
- We need purification.
- For unintentional sin (Lev 4:1, Ps 25:7, Lev 12:6-7, 15:15, 14:19, 8:14, Num 7:16, 8:8, Lev 5:1-4)
- For Guilt incurred
- Confession is required and penalty is incurred (Lev 5:5-6, 1Jn 1:9)
- Not all sin is equal, but all can be purified! (Lev 4:3, 14, 23, 27, 5:7, 11, James 3:1)
- Blood is applied depending on scope of impurity
- Fat and inner parts are burned as offering (Lev 4:8-10, 19-20, 26, 31, 35)
- Rest of carcass is burned outside (Lev 4:11-12, 21)
- Forgiveness/atonement is the result (Lev 4:19, 26, 31, 35, 5:6, 10, 13)
- Jesus as our sin offering and the one who cleanses the Living Temple (Rom 8:3-4, 1Pt 1:2, Heb 9:12-14, 13:10-16)
